In late 2022, PennDOT coordinated with Northeastern Pennsylvania Alliance (NEPA) to confirm three (3) construction projects. It is anticipated that construction will proceed from west to east, starting with Section 1 – Exit 303 with an anticipated let date of December 2024. Refer to the Project Sections graphic below.
On January 30, 2020, FHWA issued Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the location and design of the Interstate 80 Reconstruction Project (Section 17M).
On October 25, 2019, PennDOT will release the project’s Environmental Assessment (EA) document for public comment and hold a Public Hearing on November 13, 2019.
On December 4, 2018, PennDOT held the third public open house for the I-80 Reconstruction Project. The meeting consisted of displays of refined Phase II alternatives plus purpose and need, construction staging, economic analysis, and traffic information. A Project Advisory Committee has formed for the Interstate 80 (I-80) reconstruction project.
PennDOT has reached out to project stakeholders from the local community, and has held multiple project advisor committee meetings. The group has met regularly throughout the project design phase to provide feedback on the alternatives, advise PennDOT on local and regional needs, and keep PennDOT informed of local issues and activities.

PennDOT has developed a project website specific to the I-80 Reconstruction Project in Monroe County as another way to communicate the project status to the general public, interested parties, commuters and goods movers alike. Among its multiple features, the website provides an overview of the purpose of the project, presents the proposed conceptual improvement options and summaries of the public outreach program. As the project advances, regular updates to the content will be posted.
